Nutrients

Magnesium • master mineral • Every single cell uses magnesium

It is an essential building block for our bodies. Your ability to contract your muscles is dependent on the level of magnesium in your body! Magnesium activates the adenosine triphosphate or ATP receptors in your cells. When ATP is broken down, it releases energy that your body uses to workout! The more you workout, the faster your body is burning up that energy released from ATP breakdown! Magnesium also helps cramping and insufficient amounts of magnesium can weaken your bones! Examples of plant based foods that have high amounts of magnesium are: almonds, cashews, spinach, and cacao.

Zinc • maintain a healthy heart • maintain healthy lungs

It improves VO2 max which is the amount of oxygen your body is able to supply to your muscles during workouts! Zinc also plays a huge role in hormone production including testosterone which is essential for building lean muscle! It is associated with healing bones, preventing osteoporosis along with repairing your tissues after exercise by fighting inflammation! Low levels of zinc are linked to low mineral density which can cause bone fractures! Example of plant based foods with high levels of zinc are: spinach, flax seeds, and pumpkin seeds.

Iron • in every cell in your body • The Oxygen transporter

It's main role is to attach to oxygen in red blood cells and transport it to your tissues! It also helps the body convert carbohydrates into energy during workouts. Iron is why you can eat carbohydrates and use them as an energy source verses fat storage! As your muscles grow, there is an increase of red blood cells in your body therefore increasing the amount of iron needed. Iron deficiency can cause a variety of symptoms that will affect your workouts including fatigue and headaches! Examples of plant based iron is: spinach, flax, pumpkin seeds, and cacao.

Protein • made up of amino acids • rebuilds Broken down muscle

Consuming adequate protein fuels fat burning while reserving calorie burning lean muscle! It's important to regularly consume protein as it's not stored by your body. Inadequate levels of protein can cause low energy and lack of muscle growth! Examples of pant based protein are: nuts, hemp, spinach, and Spirulina/Blue Majik.
